I think I know the turmoil you are describing. Asymmetry is not new. For billions, it has always been the norm. There is no outside.
But there is between.
There are tools within to instrument the forest, teach the villagers to build lanterns, and let the ideas we exchange swarm around those artificial lucioles for a while.
Once Rushkoff said: program or be programmed. I took it — not as rage against the machine, but as an opening — more degrees of freedom: a neolove letter, an interactive mashup at a party, DJs mixing the same party across cities, abroad, and across oceans 🌊.
Möbius started small: attributing a micro-contribution, a single function, through a linked network of git repositories. From there you can imagine that with some of the power of our weighted anti-hero it becomes a coordination layer — a way to not write the same thing twice, to find nearby peers. The multilingual cognitive diversity is almost an accident of the design. Almost. Seeding the dark forest with diverse multilingual cognitive patterns — a silver lining?
After a nap I sat behind the keyboard. It is soon my brother-in-law’s anniversary — a good opportunity to use the pseudo-random animation I published to Möbius a couple of weeks ago. I was made aware that someone in Alaska used it at a local LAN party, lighting up the event based on the mood captured by a phone’s mic. I am happy and thankful. My project will notify back like a boomerang through the Möbius network that new parties were enlightened by that contribution, by way of a new derivation. When derivation is structural — hash pointers, not mutable registries — absorption stops being silent.
Call it fiction for now — the kind that becomes infrastructure once enough of us act as if it were true. And I have been dreaming of it for a decade — whether LLMs party within the enlightened dark forest is irrelevant for the time being.
Whether the attribution mesh gets proper recognition is in our hands. We build it each day, or we don’t. Making each day less boring, more joyful, less painful, and more open to possibilities.
Möbius is a challenging open channel. Only an open civilization is up to the task.
